5. Matting Policy & Consent
Our priority is "humanity over vanity." We will not carry out prolonged de-matting that causes pain or distress.
-
Assessment: While we assess coats at drop-off, some matting only becomes visible during the bathing/drying process.
-
Options: If matting is discovered, we will attempt to contact you to discuss:
-
Stopping the groom for a veterinary clip-off.
-
A short professional clip-off.
-
Selective removal of individual mats (if possible).
-
-
Consent: If we cannot reach you, we will use our professional judgment to act in the dog's best interest. By booking, you accept that a short clip may be necessary and that this can reveal pre-existing skin conditions or cause temporary irritation/hematomas (ear tip bleeding caused by sudden blood flow after mat removal). Additional charges apply for the extra time required.
-
Double Coats: For impacted double coats that are not suitable to be shaved out we may have to break up the appointment over multiple sessions as this is kinder for the dog.

6. Accidents, Cuts & Grooming Risks
While every care is taken to ensure your pet’s safety, grooming carries inherent risks — particularly with matted coats, elderly dogs, or sensitive skin. The equipment used in grooming is sharp, and although we follow strict safety practices, accidents can happen, especially on matted, dark-nailed, or wriggly dogs.
Possible risks include:
-
Minor nicks or cuts
-
Skin irritation or temporary redness
-
Exposure of pre-existing skin conditions
-
Quicking of the nails
If a nail is quicked, it may cause brief bleeding. In such cases, styptic powder will be applied immediately to stop the bleeding. We recommend regular nail trimming to reduce the length of the quick and maintain overall nail health.
Ear Plucking
-
Due to the risks involved, we require a signed waiver if you request ear plucking, and we strongly recommend seeking veterinary advice beforehand. Certain breeds — particularly from the doodle family — are prone to impacted ears due to excess fur. This can restrict ventilation, leading to bacterial growth and possible infection.
-
At Sadie&Pip, we understand how frustrating ear issues can be. Our goal is to help make your dog more comfortable while ensuring you’re aware of the potential risks associated with sedation if ear plucking is performed by a vet. Please research and consult your vet before booking this service.
Handstripping
Handstripping prices start at £30, covering the handstripping itself, light scissor work, and nail clipping. A bath is not included unless necessary. You’ll be asked to sign a waiver acknowledging the risks associated with bathing soon after handstripping. We recommend waiting 48 hours to allow the hair follicles to close to prevent infection (folliculitis) before bathing your dog following this service.
By proceeding with a booking, you acknowledge and accept these risks as part of the grooming process.

7. Allergies & Product Reactions
We use high-quality products, but we cannot guarantee against unknown allergic reactions. We are not liable for reactions where no prior disclosure of sensitivity was made.

8. Medical Emergencies & Veterinary Care
-
By using our services you authorise us to take your dog to a vet in case of an emergency. We will try our best to contact you however if we cannot reach you we will act in the best interest of the dog.
-
Any veterinary fees incurred may be the responsibility of the owner
-
Sadie&Pip will only cover veterinary costs if it is proven that the injury was a direct result of gross negligence.

9. Pricing & Estimates
-
All prices provided prior to an appointment are estimates only. Final pricing is determined upon physical assessment of your dog’s size, coat condition, behaviour, and time required.

10. Cancellations/ no shows and late arrivals
-
Notice: We require 48 hours notice for cancellations. We are a small family run business with limited spaces and appreciate your cooperation to help us accommodate another dog if you cannot attend. Any less than 48 hours cancellation or no show will result in your deposit being non refundable and may incur the full appointment fee.
-
Fees: A no-show will result in the full appointment fee to be paid before rescheduling.
-
We understand that emergencies happen — consideration will always be given at our discretion.
-
Lateness: If you are more than 15 minutes late, we may need to shorten the grooming session to stay on schedule. In this instance, the full cost of the original booking will still apply, regardless of whether the groom is completed. If the appointment must be rescheduled due to lateness, it will be treated as a "no-show," and the full appointment fee will be charged before a new date can be secured.
11. Collection & Late Fees
-
We pride ourselves on offering a bespoke, one-to-one service. An estimated pick-up time will be agreed upon following your dog’s initial coat and behavior assessment.
-
If a groom is taking longer than anticipated, we will contact you immediately to provide an updated timeframe.
-
Promptness: Because we operate on a specific schedule with limited accommodation, we kindly ask that dogs are collected promptly.

For example; for dogs with impacted double coats that are not suitable to be shaved out we may need multiple sessions to remove as this is kinder for the dog.
